TAD Gear Force 10 Pants

TAD Gear isn’t exactly a household name.  So it’s no wonder we’ve only recently discovered this high end manufacturer, who has a series of tactical pants that attempt to trump all others.

The TAD Gear Force 10 Pants emphasize all the finer points of garment construction, including stitches per inch, top quality threads and cottons, and a US based labor force.  In executing all these details without compromise, they’ve created an incredible line of pants that approach $100 a pair – more than double the price of a typical pair of imported tactical pants.

There’s no denying the quality of the garments – they are top notch, and feature some innovative functionality. We find their pricing interesting, as law enforcement and military types are rarely top earners.

Chalk us up as fans of the Force 10 Pants.  But we’ll be watching closely to see if such a high end offering can gain momentum in a market dominated by lower cost imports.

Military Boots & Tactical Pants

July 1st, 2009

Belleville 310Boots and tactical pants go together like Michael Jackson and Tito. In particular, military boots seem to be the most popular flavor of footwear among tactical enthusiasts. The durable construction, rugged look and proven design of military boots complement the functional nature of tactical pants. 5.11 Tactical, the creator of tactical pants, now offer their own line of boots which they sell right alongside their popular apparel line. Ofcourse, some might argue that the original military boot manufacturers like Danner, Bates and Belleville offer a more authentic and battle-tested boot line than some of the newer entries to hit the market.

Elite Lightweight Operator Pant

If you read the backstory behind Woolrich clothing company, it’s easy to get excited about buying garments with such a rich heritage.  Founded in 1830, they’ve been making quality outdoor apparel for nearly two centuries.

Naturally, when Woolrich decided to jump into the tactical apparel business, tactical operators took notice.  The resulting “Woolrich Elite” line encompasses not only tactical pants, but a full line of shorts, vests, shirts, and accessories in various fabrics.  Woolrich tactical pants feature a very distinctive pocket configuration that is recognizable from a distance.  They also boast perhaps the best feel of any tactical pants we’ve laid our hands on.

If you’re looking for some American heritage baked into your tactical apparel, and don’t mind paying a little extra for the quality, Woolrich Elite series demands consideration.

Original BDU Pants

June 23rd, 2009

BDU PantsTactical pants may get all the glory, but BDU pants are what started it all. BDU, which stands for Battle Dress Uniform, is comprised of a BDU coat and BDU pants. This was the standard issue uniform for members of the United States armed forces from 1981 to 2008. Much like tactical pants, they offer double seat and knee reinforcement, large cargo pockets and durable construction. Civilians have been wearing BDU pants since they first appeared in the military for a host of applications ranging from lawn care to corrections. Others bought them purely for the camo style as a fashion statement. BDU pants are still widely in use today as a great all-around trouser despite their official unauthorized status in the United States Army. BDU Pants are a little more aggressive and a little less casual than tactical pants and are typically less expensive.

Going Mainstream

June 11th, 2009

Tactical users are constantly getting more options in tactical wear.  The choices are becoming more fashionable and functional.  While manufacturers are trying to gain more customers, options for the end user continue to emerge.  Many manufacturers are rolling out lightweight versions of their offerings for warmer weather. Some are targeting tactical versatility without the tactical look. Even women are getting more options when it comes to tactical gear.  For example, 5.11 now has tactical academy shorts specifically designed for women cadets.  With the choices continuing to grow, the prevalence of tactical gear for non-tactical uses is more common.  The functionality, the durability and the moderate pricing are resonating with buyers in this harsh economic environment.  The growing success of tactical gear among mainstream consumers is a clear indicator that the  the top tactical apparel manufacturers are really starting to hit their stride.

Unlikely survivalist straddles two worlds

May 28th, 2009

“He is Columbia-educated, petite, soft-spoken, borderline giggly. He’s “a hipster” who “looked quite humorous in a class with a bunch of Blackwater types wearing combat boots and 511 tactical pants,” says Kevin Reeve, who taught Strauss how to hijack a car and escape from handcuffs, among other things, in a class called Urban Escape and Evasion.”
