Tactical Pants Sighting: National Geographic’s Alaska State Troopers
One of our avid readers pointed us to Alaska State Troopers, a National Geographic reality show (“where justice is carried out – Alaska style!”) that follows police officers through backwoods areas of America’s largest state. These law enforcers are rough, tough and are never without a crisp pair of navy tactical pants.
With its first episode airing Oct. 15, the documentary-style show was filmed over a 10-month period and takes viewers through some of the most strange and isolated places — where no matter how remote, crime still seems to run rampant. The camera follows not only the blue-shirted Alaska State Troopers but also the Alaska Wildlife Troopers, who stick to more earthy tones like brown.
While most state patrols focus on traffic violations, the state troopers on this series have to make do enforcing both criminal and traffic laws. They are the primary group maintaining public peace and order within Alaska.
According to the National Geographic Channel, most (if not all) of the folks these troopers encounter could very well be armed. “… When we go on patrol, when we contact people we know a few things. We know that they will have guns, they will have knives, and they’ll know how to use them,” Sgt. Scott Quist, a wildlife trooper, was quoted by the channel as saying.
