Wow, what a video! I first joined a volunteer rescue squad in 1976. We made our own backboards with sturdy wood and finish. I was an EMT from 1980-1984. Now I am a RN with extensive emergency experience. Things have changed in the field a lot since the late ’70s and early ’80s for the better.
Two things I would have liked to see in the video: Something on Freedom House in Pittsburgh, PA and a mention of the formation of Emergency Nurses Association. ER nursing is a special form of nursing!
One more thing: the Hyatt disaster in KCMO was the genesis of the creation of one of the most successful and proficient EMS providers, the Metropolitan Ambulance Services Trust. Next year, unless something political happens, MAST will be absorbed into the fire department. It will be interesting to see how the human elements of the merger changes things.
