Finding the best pair of tactical pants for men shouldn't be too difficult these days. With more than two dozen options out there, the male operator can pick and choose from an array of features and colors.
Looking for 11 pockets instead of nine? Done. Prefer a gusseted crotch? You got it.
Before 2008, there were only a handful tactical pant makers. Since then, the market has expanded to include a number of military apparel manufacturers that understand what it takes to make battle-ready gear with a competitive advantage. As more and more manufactures enter the market and launch new designs, it only further propels the thriving tactical industry.

Blackhawk
A former Navy SEAL started Blackhawk in 1993, primarily producing gun holsters and other military gear. As business expanded, so did its apparel offering. In 2008, the Virginia-based company introduced Warrior Wear Blackhawk tactical pants, a pair of pants that hosts a bevy of special features including S.T.R.I.K.E. webbing for modular attachments and too many bar-tacks to count.

EOTAC
After taking part in designing Woolrich's Elite Series Tactical, EOTAC founder Fernando Coelho was well-equipped to make his mark on the tactical pants world. While using a fit block similar to Woolrich's pant, Coelho says his company goes above and beyond to make sure their pants fit the same year after year.
Kitanica
An outlier in the tactical community, Kitanica is still a tiny operation run by two brothers in Oakland, Calif. Its biggest claim to fame was when Mythbuster's Adam Savage donned a Kitanica jacket, causing uproar in the tech-geek community. Kitanica's products are all USA-made with the highest quality materials out there.
LA Police Gear
Founded by a former Los Angeles police officer, LA Police Gear entered the tactical pants manufacturing world in 2008. Hailed as the most affordable pant on the market, its Operator Pants and Stealth Operator Pants retail for $19.99. This affordability, however, has been paired with reports of sloppy construction and subpar customer service.
Propper International
A well-known name in military gear, Propper International made its foray into tactical pants around 2006. Propper tactical pants have been called one of the best values in the military and tactical community. Additionally, its lightweight tactical pants come with a free matching belt - something offered by no other manufacturer.
Tru-Spec by Atlanco
Originally a surplus company, Tru-Spec by Atlanco morphed into a manufacturing company that now makes tactical pants in addition to a bevy of other military apparel. With 14 symmetrical pockets and a unique design, its 24-7 Series Tru-Spec tactical pantsset itself apart in the ever-crowded tactical space.
Vertx
Through a partnership between Fechheimer and Arc'teryx, Vertx was born. Intended for the operational athlete and designed specifically for a federal agency, its trousers kick it up a notch with articulated knees, a gusseted crotch and super-discrete pockets. Despite the added features, these tactical pants for men maintain an under-the-radar, discreet appeal.
Woolrich Elite Tactical Series
Woolrich is a brand name sewn into the fabric of America. However, its recognizable red buffalo check pattern won't be found on any of its tactical pants. The Woolrich Elite Tactical Series provides five styles of tactical trousers for law enforcement, executive protection, military operations and civilian conceal carry.

5.11 Tactical
To say 5.11 Tactical invented the tactical pant is only slightly inaccurate. Sure, it's the name synonymous with the trousers. However, Royal Robbins originally designed the first-ever tactical trouser. Founder of 5.11, Dan Costa, later purchased that outdoor clothing company along with its now infamous 5.11 hiking pant. The original tactical pants haven't changed much since then. That's probably why 5.11 sells similar pants in six additional styles.
LA Police Gear Operator Tactical Pants
Reviewer Equip2Endure calls LA Police Gear's Operators Pants one of his favorites. However, due to an issue with the company's customer service, he is no longer is a customer.
The trouser's lightweight material and roomy pockets are highlighted in this review. Yet a small YKK zipper that can get stuck and noisy material detract from the positives.
Two aspects of the 24-7 Series pants that are considered pluses are its lightweight material perfect for warm weather wear and its 10-pocket symmetrical structure.
Vertx Men's Pants
Accentuating the positives, TeamUSCav points to Vertx Men's Pants unique cotton and Lycra stretch fabric, its ultra-discreet design and comfortable fit.
Blackhawk Warrior Wear Lightweight Pants
Blackhawk pants feature a sliding waistband that gives four inches of adjustability, a stay-tuck liner, extra-wide belt loops and a front zipper pocket that allows access while sitting.
Propper Lightweight Tactical Pants
Created for on and off duty wear, Propper's lightweight tactical pants have 11 pockets including a back pocket-in-a-pocket and come with a free nylon duty belt.
On average, tactical pants contain around 10 pockets including cargo pockets perfect for storing almost any small tool. Image courtesy of Flickr.
Propper's Lightweight Tactical Trousers are made from a 6.4-ounce poly-cotton ripstop fabric that prevents shrinking, fading and wrinkling.

Tru-Spec's 24-7 Series pants feature 14 pockets and are available in black, coyote, dark navy, khaki, olive drab and stone. Image courtesy of Mil-Spec-Monkey.
